Every Chinese can help our brothers and sisters in Indonesia by

letter to the US House Representative Chris Smith (he doesn't

E-mail address). He represents the human rights panel of the US
Government, which is visiting Indonesia this week. He will meet
the
government, the opposition, and the student representatives regarding
human rights. We hope we can convince him that the human rights
in
Indonesia should apply to all people including the Chinese-Indonesians
because currently the treatment of Chinese
minority in Indonesia is a major human right violation. Chris

INDONESIAN-CHINESE
The Chinese in Indonesia are in similar situation as the Jewish
in
Europe were in before the 2nd World War. They (the Chinese in
Indonesia) are a minority (only 3% of the population) in Indonesia
but
despite this have a strong presence on the Indonesian economy.
They are
constantly under discrimination in all aspects due to racial &
religious
differences. The hatred towards Chinese is deeply inside an
Indonesian's mind and it is carried on generation after generation.
The
Chinese are always attacked and shops are burnt during any riots
in
Indonesia.
We understand you are heading to Indonesia regarding human rights
in
that country. Please be aware that the treatment of the Chinese
in
Indonesia is a major human rights violation and please raise this
issue
with Indonesian officials and parties when you are meeting with
them.
The United States is committed to be a role model and to enforce
the
idea of human rights around the world. This is a good opportunity
for
the United States to fulfill its commitment.
